We serve a range of very special gourmet leaf teas for the tea aficionado. Real Leaf Tea, Single Estate and Single Region Teas covering a spectrum of taste and flavour and offering a collection of experiences.
A spicy, reviving Ceylon tea. Ginger has a pronounced sharp flavour and is prized in the East Ayurveda as a digestive aid. The 'hot', throat warming character of ginger balances a bright, high grown Ceylon Tea to offer a deliciously refreshing spice tea. Natural Ginger Tea is a centuries old tradition in Ceylon, as a reviving, 'pick me up' brew.
The legend of Earl Grey Tea is one of politics and intrigue. When a British diplomat saved the life of an official of the Imperial Chinese Court, tea enhanced with the peel of a special variety of orange, and its recipe were given to Charles, 2nd Earl of Grey, also then the Prime Minister of England. The tea that became known as 'Earl Grey Tea' combines tea with the flavour of bergamot. This original Earl Grey Tea offers a rich and strong brew, enhanced with oil of Bergamot; it is a distinctive and unique flavour.
Ceylon Tea was recognized as the finest since the late 1800s when its bright, full bodied teas made tea and Ceylon famous throughout Europe. There was good reason for this as the island produces teas to please every palate - from the earthy and rich low elevation teas, to the light, delicate high elevation teas. This Ceylon Broken Orange Pekoe is the quintessential Ceylon, offering body, brightness, structure, strength and colour; the features that made Ceylon the home of the finest teas.
Combining a fine Single Region Pekoe from Nuwara Eliya with the mystical, fragrance of rose petals. Celebrated throughout history for its alluring romanticism, the rose is one of the most sought after amongst flavours. The gentle tea is encircled by the softly sweet floral aroma of red rose to deliver a feminine and very gentle brew. The rose fragrance is tinged with the flavour of French Vanilla, softening its character.
A high grown Ceylon Tea, delicate with the almost greenish character that represents seasonal quality. The perfect Afternoon Tea, with a golden infusion and light flavour that complements scones, shortcake or sweet pastry. This is a special Tea, and when brewed properly, ideally using spring or mineral water, a delight to the eye and the taste buds.
Light and bright high elevation, single region Pekoe from Nuwara Eliya, 5,000 feet above sea level in the mountains of Ceylon enhanced with a touch of the uplifting aroma and juicy sweetness of Mediterranean Mandarin. The lightness of the tea is deliciously and lifted by the sweet, zestful flavour of Mandarin, one of the most appealing fruits of the citrus family. The Mandarin fragrance enhances the sensual appeal of this brew, producing an invigorating, refreshing tea; perfect as an afternoon or evening cuppa.
Savoured as a refreshing beverage since Roman times, Peppermint is naturally caffeine free and ideal taken after a meal to aid digestion. The natural peppermint oil in the leaves impart a menthol aroma and a zest to the infusion of the leaf, making this a cooling and uplifting beverage. The infusion of peppermint leaves with a touch of honey is an ideal palate cleanser and effective in rehydration
Chamomile is a gentle and relaxing herb enjoyed for centuries by Europeans as a tonic. The daisy-like Chamomile flower has an uplifting aroma reminiscent of apples. The subtle flavour of Chamomile is concentrated in the flower and this infusion offers the pure infusion of the Chamomile flower, without leaves and stem. Chamomile is often enjoyed as a relaxing, naturally caffeine-free infusion, with its soothing aroma and very delicate flavour.
A rare handmade white tea from the Nuwara Eliya region of Ceylon, grown at 6,000 feet elevation. The tender buds of the tea plant are hand picked at dawn, carefully carried in a silk pouch and entirely handmade. The buds are sun dried and carefully hand rolled, producing the characteristic silver, needle-like buds, with a velvety texture. Their pale liquor is surpassingly light and delicate, elusive and mild on the palate with a touch of a 'greenish' seasonal high grown character in the finish. The beauty of the infused buds adds to the pleasure of this unique brew.
Tightly rolled and well twisted Ceylon Green Tea grown at around 1,600 feet elevation near the ancient city of Kandy. The infused leaf reveals a full tea leaf in each of the rolled leaves. The unfurling of the leaf and the flavour being imparted to the water is delightful to watch. The liquor is mild and gentle, with a touch of fruit, citrus and a fragrant, herbal finish. In the cup, a dark yellow infusion typical of a medium strength green tea. This is a unique Green Tea, displaying the skill of the teamaker in a gentle and slightly sweet tea that is the perfect accompaniment to fine dining.
The most famous of the 'eyebrow' teas, so named for their shape. Produced in the Shangmeizhou region of China, is also known as Famous Plum Tea for its plum-like flavour. Producing Mingmei Tea involves great skill. The jade green leaves infuse to produce a clear yellowish green liquor tinged with the characteristic plum-like floral note. The infused leaf unfurls to display hand-picked buds of the tea bush. Clean, light and refreshing, this is a very special tea.
Tea was discovered in the jungles of India's Assam region in 1823 and since then Assam has become synonymous with Indian Tea. Assam Teas are known for their robust, malty flavour. This Special Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe or SFTGFOP is a Single Estate Assam leaf tea, with wiry, dark brown leaf showing golden tip. The infused leaf is coppery in colour, yielding a bright and rich liquor, with depth and some gut. A medium bodied tea, with a gentle earthiness balanced by a touch of spice. Clear and bright in the cup with a reddish-brown infusion.
White Tea is the rarest form of tea, consisting of the bud of the tea leaf, the most tender part of the two leaves and bud which are hand-picked to produce tea. Song Dynasty 'Tea Emperor' Hui Zong relished white tea for having the most rare and subtle flavour. White Litchee is hand made from tea buds which are an inch or so long and then tied into a large 'pearl' which unfurls when infused. The enjoyment of this Very Special Rare Tea requires the observation of the pearl unfurling, one bud at a time, transforming in over 30 seconds or so into a flower of buds.
